Timeline of development in Tamil Nadu - Fujian relations


2019

  • 16-17 Dec 2019. Government of Tamil Nadu delegation, led by Mr. N. Muruganandam, Principal Secretary to Government, Industries Department, visited Fuzhou, Capital City of Fujian Province. As discussed during the 2nd Informal Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping of China, a proposal is being considered to further strengthen partnership between Tamil Nadu and Fujian Province of China. The visit of Government of Tamil Nadu delegation took place in this backdrop.
  • 17 Dec,2019 the delegation called on Madame Guo Ningning, Vice Governor of Fujian Province. Both sides discussed ideas to promote trade, investment, tourism cooperative cultural & people to people exchanges between Tamil Nadu and Fujian.
  • 17 Dec afternoon, “Invest in Tamil Nadu” Seminar was organized in Fuzhou, where Government of Tamil Nadu delegation presented investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu and invited companies from Fujian to invest in Tamil Nadu.
  • 6-17 Dec. Official delegation from Fujian visited Tamil Nadu, During their visit, Fujian delegation met with their counterparts from Government of Tamil Nadu and exchanged ideas to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
  • 12 Oct 2019 2nd Informal summit introduced the concept of the "Chennai Connect."PM Modi described the "Chennai Connect" as marking the start of a "new era of cooperation" between India and China. This was seen as a continuation of the "Wuhan Spirit" established during their first informal summit in 2018. One of the significant outcomes was the establishment of a "High-Level Economic and Trade Dialogue mechanism" to enhance trade and commercial relations. This mechanism aims to balance the trade between the two countries and increase mutual investments in identified sectors.The year 2020 was designated as the "Year of India-China Cultural and People to People Exchanges" to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The summit also led to the establishment of Sister-State Relations between Tamil Nadu and Fujian Province, reflecting historical commercial and maritime linkages.
