Timeless Lessons: A Father's Day Reflection on Life and Career

#celebration #lifelessons

??My dad says - Everyday is special and celebrate every day!

I wish we know how much time we have left, that's the ultimate reality which unfortunately none of us know. So, as someone very close to me said once, celebrate them every day! Give your best every day!

I was looking back on my two decades in tech. industry and on this Sunday, July 18th, while being with my dad in person after almost 4 yrs. on Father's Day, I realized the amount of impact he has had on my personal and professional life.

He is a man of less words (Unlike me ??)

He is an introvert! (Unlike me)

He is disciplined! (Unlike me)

A retired army officer from the highest ranks. (so, unlike me ??)

He seldom gets angry but when he does, you better hide ?? (again, so unlike me??)

He is a reason I got into computers ?? (I couldn't get the ranks for good medical school, so he enrolled in my computers sparking my interest and then there was no looking back until I got my master in computers ????)

Here are the 20 life lessons from a Quiet Force in my personal/professional career which have heavily influenced how I show up today:

1. Honest living is the only way.

2. Hard work pays off in the long run. There is always a story looking back.

3. Respect everyone, regardless of their position/titles. Titles are temporary.

4. Take responsibility for your actions and decisions and stay the course.

5. Never stop learning and improving yourself.

6. Be reliable and keep your character values intact. Stand out from crowd! Warrior princess are rare but so needed.

7. Set clear goals and work towards achieving them.

8. Always strive for excellence in everything you do, even if it means hard days of learning new things.

9. Don't be afraid to ask for help, raise up your hand. If you don't ask, no one will help.

10. Stay humble and never let success get to your head. He managed the full cantonments and always had open door policy for his staff.

11. Take calculated risks and be willing to step out of your comfort zone. always have plan B.

12. Adapt to change and embrace new technologies even if means moving roles, companies, stations which he did.

13. Build strong relationships with colleagues and clients.

14. Your time on this earth is limited, give your best every day.

15. Learn from failures and use them as stepping stones to success.

16. Be proactive and take initiative in your work. He always asks me what's my next promo plan. Yes, he does.

17. Stay positive and maintain a solution-oriented mindset.

18. Continuously network and build a strong professional reputation.

19. Never compromise your integrity, even when faced with difficult choices.

20. Believe in God, trust his plan and timing.

You're blessed to have him I find you extremely lucky to have such parenting. A few points specifically connect to Sikhism, I adore the human values it has. My regards to your parents. Stay Blessed!
