Is it time for your Company to have a Well Check?

Many times Business Owners will ask what can Human Resources do for me? The answer to this is many things. One of the key ways Human Resources can plug in initially to your company is to provide a well check of your company health.

What do I mean by that? Allow me to give you two specific cases which actually happened and summarize what this can mean for you.

Case #1-We came into a situation where an employer, unbeknownst to them, inherited an employee with possibly fatal baggage, they were carrying, to the business. In fact, so much so the circumstances were putting the other two dozen or so employees and, ultimately, the business at risk. Once the employer became aware of this they were able to look at a number of options to resolve the situation and choose the most optimal one thereby eliminating the unknown risk and restoring a buffer of safety for the company.

Case #2-We began to provide Payroll services for a company and quickly discovered some inconsistencies in the books which led to the discovery of a Bookkeeper defrauding over $250,000 from the company over a 10 year time frame. We were able to provide solutions for the owner which returned most of the money without going to court thereby minimizing damages and, once again, restoring credibility in the system.

What both of these examples provide can be summed up by comparing this to Personal Well Checks or Physicals. Most people have been to the Doctor, asymptomatic, at least once in the last 10 years. Why? I would claim it is to gain the Peace of Mind which comes with knowing your present state-being it in disease process or a clean bill of health. Should your company be any different? What would that Peace of Mind mean to you and how much is it worth to know the difference?

Think of that the next time you ask yourself what can Human Resources do for me and my company? Years of hard work to build it and only a moment of clarity can lose it unless I know beforehand.
