It is time to write your story - Part 1

We have grown to accept that humility is walking with your back bending like a comma out of breath. We speak very lowly of our exploits, our conquests and achievements for fear of being labelled - boastful, proud or just a plain "show off". That is a mindset I need to deal with right now. When you look at how far you have come in life, only you know your story fully. No-one is therefore qualified to accuse you of telling your story. I am accused of seeing an author in everyone I come across. It is simple, if you can't write the story just speak it out to someone interested in writing it on paper. With few edits you have immortalized your life. I always tell of my village upbringing wherever I speak with its many lessons which are priceless. Many only get to know my story when I tell it. I feel so proud to have been raised not just by my parents but by the entire village.
When I look back, I see victories that many consider so small. They look at me with the eyes that say "What is there to celebrate". My friends, on those dusty valleys, kicking stones daily with bare feet, fighting so hard to have decent meals, jostling for every penny that had the risk of coming to our house, sitting around a plate of sadza "pap" and fighting for our chance to pick a piece of what appeared like an idea of meat, that my friends forms part of my heritage which I cherish. I want to encourage you here and now, quit trying to convince people let alone pleasing them. I have come to realize how futile that exercise can be. You will please one and anger another with the same story. So, I made a decision to live my life the best way I know how. As long as those who care about you and love you appreciate what you are up to, don't be moved by the scripts and dictates of people who have no idea what your frustrations are, your real personality, your story, your weaknesses, your struggles, your lack and any other facet that forms a part of you.
Do not be conformed from today on. Write and tell your story however many times to anyone who cares to listen, even if they ridicule you for it. You are the best candidate to tell of the story that you create daily. I love a friend of mine's vlog called #RememberMyStory by Remember Chaitezvi. He talks about exactly this concept. If you know where he was 8 years ago you will appreciate why he is documenting his story and progress. That is essentially my point.
Your story could be the fuel you need to fight the thorns and thistles that seek your discomfort. Your story can be a weapon for you or someone else to fight depression and anxiety. I hope you follow my story as I seek to touch as many people in ways they will hopefully remember. This is just a musing I got while unwinding about the training I did for 30 Educational Managers in Gauteng today. #PurposeDriven #SpeakertLife #BornToInspire#VoiceWithInvoices #DaiAsiriJesu (my late father's favorite song).
