Admin's Assignment

Add Trendlines to Key Reports

One of our most important jobs as HubSpot Admins is to equip our team with clear reporting they can use to make better decisions. With HubSpot's recent addition of report trendlines, we can easily provide clarity about what's really going on behind all those peaks and valleys in our reports - all we have to do is turn them on.

Your admin's assignment this week is quick and easy, but it'll make a big difference in your dashboards that your team (especially leadership) will definitely notice.

Step 1: Navigate to your dashboards and do the following for each...

Step 2: For each time-based line or bar chart report, click the view and filter icon.

Step 3: If a trendline can be added to the report, you'll see the trendline options in the top right of the graph. Trendlines are not currently supported by multi-object reports, reports with a visualization other than line or bar, some legacy event reports, and any report that doesn't have a time-based X axis.

Step 4: Select the linear or logarithmic (curved) option for the trendline.

Step 5: Click the 'Update existing report' button in the lower-left corner.

Update Of The Week

Interactive Workflow Diagram Highlighting an Object's Path Through A Workflow

This update is for all us admins who have had to troubleshoot an unexpected workflow outcome by bouncing back and forth between a workflow's action logs, the workflow editor, and a contact record. Now, HubSpot is giving us a streamlined and visual way to answer questions like, "Why didn't this contact get that email?" and "Why did this deal get assigned to that team and not the right team?"

This public beta for the new interactive enrollment history diagram is pretty slick. After enrolling in the beta, you can access it from any workflow's edit page by going to view > enrollment history. From there, you'll see a list of records that have enrolled in the workflow. Click on a record to see the magic: that record's path through the workflow will be highlighted on the diagram with successful actions outlined in green and actions with errors in red. Click on any action to see more details on the right hand side.

On Your Radar

The Time for True Timestamping is FINALLY Near

If you've ever tried to record time in a property in HubSpot, I'm sorry. You've had to settle for just using a date picker property, you've used a text property and prayed it was used correctly while dealing with the lack of reporting and automation, or you've had to use the API or a third-party extension. Or, like most admins, you simply gave up.

But HubSpot is finally giving us true datetime properties from within the platform (no longer API only)! There's no release date yet, but they have confirmed it's in development so I would expect it within the next month or two.

Since it's still in development, I haven't played with it, but we do know some details:

  • You'll be able to create datetime properties from the property settings within your portal.
  • Time can be manually entered into those datetime properties by users.
  • Time will be shown to users in their device's time zone.
  • Existing date picker properties will be able to be converted to datetime properties.
  • Custom datetime properties that you've already created via API will show date and time in the UI.

We don't yet know what automation capabilities will be available, but since the biggest use case for time properties in a CRM is timestamping, I'm willing to bet we'll be able to set and update time properties from workflows at launch. And once we can do that, we can finally measure how long things take in hours and minutes rather than a rough estimate of days!
