Not the greatest of times just now as we have to embrace a new reality. But, could you use this time constructively to improve your business? Do you have time to think, reflect, focus, reinvent and plan your improvement ready for our collective emergence back into a new normal?
I want to help boost SME businesses and the broader UK economy. So here is the first of six weekly business exercises. You can do this solo, or using Zoom, Skype, Google hangouts etc. with the rest of your team to stay connected.
Exercise 1 of 6.
What do you do?
OK, this might seem like a very base, eye-rolling question, but it's easy to become ambiguous and distracted over time as an organisation. Trying to please everyone is dangerous, distracting, wasteful and – as you may have already found out – impossible.
For instance, you don't want engineering, product development, marketing and sales teams to have a different understanding of what business does. Even slight variants of what a company does can create confusion and undesirable incongruence. The best organisations are completely resolute, clear, consistent about what they do, their purpose and value.
Think about this at the product & service level.
Then, the benefit/value you provide to your client. How else could you describe what you do?
Big pad, big pen, get thinking and write all this down.
I will send you the next exercise over next week. Keep busy. Stay safe and help others stay safe.
