A Time to be Thankful for our Mistakes...

We need to expect our clients to stumble, and when they do show them to pause, learn from it, get back up, and keep going on their HERO's journey. Remind them the only way to master any skill or art is to be FREE to experiment and make mistakes. It is our obligation to assist them in building their skills and confidence by trial and error.

In recovery, their stumbles don't reinforce the belief that addiction is an incurable disease, but allow allow them to learn how to navigate this life long journey. Their stumbles help build the life skills that will naturally squeeze addictive behaviors out of their life. As they begin to seek out new challenges, their sense of power and confidence will naturally grow.

If our clients slip or stumble, they don't have to tumble all the way back down the mountain. We help them get back up, look at what happened, look for an improvement in their strategy and move on. Then, they begin to use every experience to accelerate their progress on the path to mastery.

Their life is no longer about just stopping addiction. Their life becomes a true hero's journey - an epic tale that is a source of inspiration for them and others.

As addiction treatment centers and treatment professionals it is our responsibility to assist the many stumbles.
