Time on Task/ Gap Time "Logistics"
I am going to talk about experience in Labor tracking in logistics and Gap times and Time on Task. Let’s say you oversee 100 associates, or you are overseeing 40 associates, and you must track their gap time, time on task, and ensure they are in the right functions. When dealing with the associates do you have them broken down into two groups, so they take breaks at opposite times so there a constant workflow? If does it help your progress and your workload. Having two group on opposite times can help benefit a company because it will allow maximum workflow and time on task. But this will also ensure the Leader can track their labor effective. Labor tracking is one of the functions that many company have problems with because some have digital platforms where you select the function. Employees at times will ether forget to change their function, or they will just bypass changing it because it is an extra step. When you run into these types of issues you want to address the root cause. The root cause could be the employee itself, but it could also be the software. Like every good computer it crashes that can cause a little bit of stress but when it happens you just must adapt. When the computer software goes down and you find out you should always have a notebook and pen available to get everyone labor on what they are doing. This would ensure that you can update it successfully in the system and print out the update rates for those hours when that software is back up and running. Ensuring that employees are constantly engaged on time in task is critical because believe it or not the employees are the heart of the company with out them there no company. When your employees are on task and are working faster more products are going out the door which when dealing with rates will have a higher rate. For example, if someone packs two boxes every two minute their rates would be over 100 an hour every time. the last thing I am going to talk about is Gap time. Gap times are critical in a company because it how a company looks and evaluates their processes. A good example is when dealing with forklift drivers a Leader might look at their time on task and their gap time. the time on task is how long it took them to complete that one task from scan to scan. But the gap time is critical because it is from the last scanned item to the new scan item. It is the timeframe in between which as someone companies they struggle with high gap times. An effective way to work on gap times is to pull that person a side and talk to them see what’s going on what causing the big-time difference between scans. Tell them when the company is aiming for and give them goals to hit to motivate them. You goal as a leader is to motivate your team, coach them to success and mentor them. If they are not willing to approach you then, you as a leader need to reevaluate yourself. ?
