Time to Stop Abuse of Parliament Privilege Abuse.
Response to Senator Khadijah Ameen concerns of Abuse of Parliament Privilege.
By Minister of Finance and Minister of Health April 2020—By Donald Berment.
The time is now to do something about that Khadijah. You told me at a meeting in Diego Martin some time ago, that when a Parliamentary Term has ended, no abuse of Parliament Privilege from that Term, can be raised at any future Parliament Term.
Can the UNC therefore, prepare a design for legislation that will make Parliamentarians responsible for their abuse of Parliamentary Privilege for the rest of their lives, when and if the abuse is proved to be an Abuse of Parliamentary Privilege, after the end of any and all Parliamentary Terms, retroactive to the year 2000.
This when a law, will make sure that policy makers at Government level, take all precautions to manage the people's business, with an abundant of caution. All the money such persons accumulate and all the property they acquire, during their office period in Parliament, then becomes liable to be forfeited by the State by due process of law and they are subsequently debarred from holding any Parliamentary Office for the rest of their lives.
That law, if and when introduced by the UNC either as a PRIVATE MOTION NOW or the promise to so do in a new Government, as a priority in any manifesto, is definitely one of the ways forward in any Recovery Process, in my humble view, giving the population the confidence, that full accountability is entrenched in the Parliamentary System and sending a warning to all who desire to serve, to serve honestly and with competence, or face the consequences thereafter.
Keep up your good work. With 10 million every month, for May, June and July 2020, to all Corporations to manage COVID 19 hardships, a lot can be achieved and most importantly, all the necessary databases can be finalized for any future hardships, be it man made or God made.
The UNC has control of 7 Regional Corporations, out of a number of 14 Corporations and over 300,000 voting supporters. A well planned way forward, when added to such efforts to make Parliamentarians responsible fully for their behaviour during their office term, will put the UNC back into power when General Elections are called.
