It Is Time to Step Back and Give Back
We all thrive to get ahead and make more money, do more deals, buy the best vehicles, travel the world, drink the best wine, etc. What if I proposed to you that isn't all that life is about! I chose to take a different path and start participating in non-profit work over two years ago. WOW! That has really changed my life attitude all for the better. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy all that I stated at the opening of this article but now I am giving back to people who need more than I do.
I am the current Board President for CRRC, a 501c3 non-profit located in Canyon Lake, Texas. My path to this position was guided by embarrassment when I read about a Board Member who passed. Her obituary was astonishing as to what she had done for the community and there I was sitting at home. I went to CRRC and interviewed. I was accepted as a volunteer and started bagging groceries for clients. I then started assisting in updating their data base. When I was voted onto the Board, I was quite excited yet still did not know what I was getting into. I found out quickly that it costs a lot of money to run a non-profit.
Donations from major organizations like United Way are down. That means their distribution to charitable groups is reduced. That means then the charitable group has to find more avenues for funding. One of the main avenues for funding is the community we are in.......an individual or a family or a person who does not sit there and let, "someone else do it". This is why I am reaching out to my LinkedIn community. I need your help to help my community where CRRC provides so many services to those in need.
