Time Spent Online

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise to you if I said you spend 47 days a year surfing the web. Or maybe it just did, but it’s only going to get more harrowing.

A poll by NordVPN from 2,000 British adults suggests you will spend a whopping 22 years, 1 month and 4 days of your life solely online. The poll was conducted in 2021 when the pandemic was still prevalent and when streaming, music and gaming services were used the most globally.

An interesting factor of this study is that just over half of those 2,000 adults claimed they could never imagine going a whole day without having access online. What a terrible thought.

It’s not entirely terrible though considering we do live in an age where being online is the norm. We use online banking, Amazon or eBay shopping, staying connected with family across the globe or school friends when you graduate. Streaming directly from the cloud on Netflix or jamming without downloads on Spotify. It does make sense why we spend this amount of time on the internet and it’ll likely increase with the evolution of jobs.

Over the pandemic, in lockdown, remote work became a thing—and it worked! People scrambled for better broadband, we craved secure and fast internet for our virtual meetings and audio quality. And with more devices on the internet, no one wants sluggish speeds (if that is speed at all), and no one wants buffering.
