A time to sing about the unsung heroes of Dubai

Dubai’s safety, proactivity and remarkable inclusion of all residents and cultures never ceases to amaze.

Once again, this has becomes dazzlingly apparent to me. A few days ago, my brother called me in a panic – his 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter – my niece Neila – had wandered off into one of their house’s rooms. She locked the door by accident, and was unable to open it herself. Locked into the room, her cries alerted my brother and his wife, who were unable to open the door from the outside. They immediately called both 999, as well as myself, so that I would come with a handyman who could help disassemble the lock. I received my call at 11:10 AM. Authorities were alerted just minutes before. I reached by 11:19 AM, arriving to a home encircled with vehicles – there was a first responder car, an ambulance, and a Dubai Police car. All three of these had reached within just 4 minutes of being alerted. It took them less than 30 seconds to open the door. While distressed from the situation, little Neila was perfectly fine. The medical team insisted on checking her anyways to make sure she was well and happy.

The incredibly swift response time, and the responders’ friendly and proactive attitude, even in times of a global pandemic unfolding, are truly virtues to behold. Dubai has the outbreak so well under control that it is still able to respond to unrelated, minor cases outstandingly fast and with the utmost care. As often highlighted, this emirate really is the safest city in the world, and I wouldn’t want to raise my family anywhere else.

I would hereby like to once again thank the brave men and women on the front lines – the first responders, police officers and medical teams – all those who make Dubai the family-friendly, stellar paradigm for safety and well-being that it is.

Thank you for all that you are doing for us.
