Is It Time To Scale?

Is It Time To Scale?

First, let's answer the question “What is scaling?”

Scaling a business means creating repeatable systems and processes and using resources to generate a profit. This is an alternative to treating your practice as a practice (wrong way) vs as a business (right way).

In layman's terms, scaling means that your business is generating income at a faster rate than it’s taking on new costs.?

Let me take a brief pause here and tell you that new businesses need to prioritize creating income consistency and building out their core promise before they attempt to scale. Scaling too soon could be a death sentence for your business if done before you’re ready.

The goal of scaling is to move away from trading your time for money and begin making a profit using your other resources (systems, staff, and processes).

What does this look like??

  • Adding new products/services.
  • Bringing in key support to build systems or execute specific tasks.?
  • Expanding into new markets.?

Wait… But how is that different that growth?

Great question!?

When you “grow”, you’re simply increasing your revenue at the same rate you’re adding resources. For example, your company makes an additional $5,000 a month in new revenue, but in order to do that you had to hire a new sales rep with a $5k salary + commission monthly rate. Yes, you’re growing, but you’re not scaling.?

Scaling, on the other hand, would that sales rep with the $5k salary bringing in $20,000 in additional revenue. You want your gains to stay greater than your losses. This is the difference between scaling and growing.?

Let me tell you why you would want to scale your business

Scaling gives you the wiggle room needed to get creative, to cover when things don’t go as planned, and to invest in new ideas and key talent. A scaled business is a powerful business. They have more resources at their disposal than the ability to show up in places where their smaller competitors may be overlooked. Scale creates something that can stand the test of time.?

Now that you are a bit clearer on this idea of scaling, ask yourself, are you still in growth mode, or are you ready to scale?
