Time to revisit Murphy`s Law
"This was my usual day and I woke up at my usual time , as I was heading towards the wash room , a sudden attack of vertigo gripped me and within moments , I was on the ground with a seething pain in my elbow ."
This could be a note in anybody 's journal , the moot point is that we are surrounded by risk all the time . But it is not that worthy companion that we would like it to have as a shadow .
Yes I know that we say our prayers every morning , we make offerings to the deities , we wear the talismans and do myriad things to protect us from the vagaries of various disasters , failings , snaps , slippages and other nightmares .
We have Murphy's Law quite well entrenched .
But then we have got this wonderful concept called insurable interest!
We Indians are beating the world by a convincing margin in highway accidents , I have heard that we are killing 1 person every two minutes , let alone the hapless dogs , squirrels and other lesser animals .
The point I am trying to drive home is that we can not escape risk , but we can definitely reduce and to a great extent eliminate the painful financial aftermath of untoward incidents.
Let us not wait for the govt. or non-govt agencies to shake us out of our slumber and let us put our risk mitigation and risk transfer plans to the fore.
I wish you all a happy Holi ( now don't tell me that last Holi Radha Mausi slipped on a wet floor and broke her hip )
Happy insuring !
