They're Trying To Kill Us
There's an old expression I heard somewhere, "Facta non verba" (Deeds not words) or "Watch what they do, not what they say."
Concerning how Canada treats its soldiers, observing their actions speak volumes compared to their words.
If you were an outsider looking in, you'd be appalled at the conditions facing our soldiers and veterans. The most recent example of this is Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) being offered to not just veterans but active serving members. To make this matter even worse is that MAID is only legal when offered to the terminally ill and can't be offered for mental health reasons.
But here we are, chatting with a young veteran on The Hard To Kill Podcast about how he was illegally offered MAID by a Veterans Affairs Canada / Anciens Combattants Canada case manager.
Add to this the inability to purchase modern vehicles that don't crash and kill their crew, having to resort to food banks and forcing vaccination that has caused more deaths than the disease; it's hard to come to any other conclusion than they're trying to kill us.
The bigger question is WHY?
MAID Offered To Young Veteran
I had the honour of talking with Corbin, a young Forces Armées Canadiennes veteran about his ordeal of being offered MAID by Veterans' Affairs.

Accompanying him was his lawyer, Catherine Christensen. We got into the whole story and revealed many other shocking truths about the underbelly of Canada's political initiatives.
Look Out For Buddy
The buddy system was devised sometime in the Vietnam era. From what I can tell it was to improve the morale of conscripts. If they joined with their buddy they got to do basic with their buddy. This concept has been the staple of most military recruit training in the West ever since.
Since most of us are used to the concept, it's strange how we distance ourselves a lot of the time from helping out "buddy" once we retire from the military.
If you follow my podcast, you'll know I'm not a huge fan of Veterans' Affairs in Canada. Part of the issue is that they create a dependence on their service once you reach out. When you begin to improve, they have perverse incentives to stay unwell like:
These are things I've personally experienced and I'm sure there's more. My point is that we're not going to change the "system" if we keep on asking for it to do more. We have to remove ourselves from it. The only way we can do that is if we know we've got each other's backs.
Buying veteran products and services is a great way to do this (Check out Mad Hatter Industries and Jeff Alpaugh Custom for starters). When you buy more from them, they can hire more folks, grow their business and then give back more to the community.
There are also loads of non-profits and charities like The Commissionaires Canada and The Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada . Donate cash or volunteer your time and help build their capacity to help more veterans.
Have a great week
