A time to reflect
Jim Nussle
Chief Executive Officer, AMERICA’S CREDIT UNIONS. Our mission is to advocate for and advance an environment where credit unions thrive.
Memorial Day is a time to honor those who laid down their life for our country. While we all come from different places and hold different views, our country—like our movement—is stronger because we take an active role in shaping its future. Please join me in honoring those who’ve given their all to defend our right to do so.
Mourning the tragedy in Texas
All of us mourn alongside those in Uvalde, Texas, who experienced unspeakable devastation this week. This comes in the weeks after mass shootings in Buffalo, N.Y. and Laguna Woods, Calif. It’s hard to imagine the pain the parents, families, and community are going through right now, but please take some time to appreciate your loved ones and keep the victims and families in your thoughts in the wake of these tragedies.
Senators introduce bipartisan FCU Act update
A bipartisan group of Senators introduced the Credit Union Board Governance Modernization Act this week, the companion to a House bill introduced during the 2022 CUNA GAC. This bill would allow credit union boards to meet no less than six times per year (down from the current once-per-month requirement). Thank you to the Mountain West Credit Union Association, Tennessee Credit Union League, California Credit Union League, and Carolinas Credit Union League for joining us in this important advocacy effort.

Hope Credit Union’s Bynum named to Fed branch board
Congratulations to Hope Credit Union CEO Bill Bynum?who was named to the board of directors of the New Orleans Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Branch directors provide economic information from their communities to aid the Federal Reserve discussions on monetary policy. Bill is a fantastic example of the power of the credit union difference, and he’ll be a great asset to the board.
