Time to reflect

Hey! It's been a busy start of the year for Trapital. To honor MLK Day, this week's memo will be pushed back to Tuesday. But in the meantime, here are some highlights from the past few weeks and some recommended reading.

We also talked about his new Master P Reviews channel on YouTube, supporting Black businesses, how his strategy differs from Jay Z and Kanye West, and lessons learned from studying the late Reginald Lewis, the Wall Street banker who started the first Black-owned billion dollar company.

The social media app is a launchpad for music superstardom, but the record label pipeline won’t work for every breakout star. In the music industry, executives have mined TikTok data to find the next superstars. A growing ecosystem wants to maximize the ByteDace app’s potential, especially in hip-hop—its most-popular genre. But that energy needs more paths to success. Otherwise, there may be a generation of artists who won’t reach their full potential.

Martin Luther King's Letter from Birmingham Jail

MLK often gets quoted, but some quotes are often selective. This letter is a great reminder of King's complete vision. He believed that to create change, we had to be willing to break unjust laws. You can read the full letter here.
