Building things that matter

What I love more than anything else is building things that matter– or more accurately building things that matter with others that care. Given everything that’s going on in the world today I wanted to take a few minutes to reflect. I'm super proud of what we've achieved. In terms of data security - I believe we have the potential to make a real difference in our world.

A good start

When we first started on this journey, we were shocked just how few enterprises had anything in place to understand what their employees were doing with their data. This is how the Lepide Data Security platform was born (At the time it was called LepideAuditor). We built a simple yet powerful way to get reports, alerts and spot anomalies around all types of access and interaction with data.

The need to understand access

While understanding what employees were doing with data was a good start, we wanted to help customers get to the route of the problem. We saw customers having issues with employees having access to data that they simply did not need.  So we added this to our platform. A comprehensive, visual way to see who had access to what and show how and where access was being granted. An easier way to work towards principle of least privilege.

The need for context

Again this was a great next step but still not enough. We wanted to give customers an easier place to start. We wanted to give a way to customers to work out what data they had that they actually needed to protect. So, we developed a new product that then scanned the contents of every single file and then tagged and classified them based on predefined types and patterns of data. It enabled organisations to immediately see when new sensitive data was created or modified,

Where we are now

Every time I overhear an engineer delivering a demonstration to a customer, I get genuinely excited. I really believe we've built something that delivers real value.

With the ability from a single product to be able to detect anomalies and alerts and run reports around JUST the most sensitive data. The ability to run a report and show who has access to specific types of sensitive data. The ability to be able to create an alert when sensitive data is copied. The ability to be able to get an alert the very moment a new sensitive file is created or modified. The ability to be able to build a detailed access report to data to help you pass a compliance audit.

While we have many organisations that use parts of our solution to help them fix point problems around these individual areas, I believe the real value we offer is when we bring them all together. A single pane of glass that ties together access governance, data classification and user behavior and anomaly detection gives a  way to cut through the noise and help enterprises see the risk and do a better job of protecting data.

I believe we make a difference.
