Is It Time to Reassess Your Professional Network? The Friendship Test You Need to Know

In today's fast-paced professional world, the quality of our connections can significantly impact our success and well-being. But how do we ensure we're investing our time in relationships that truly add value?

Can you name at least ONE thing, tangible or intangible, that this person brings to your life or career?

Consider:

- Do they inspire or challenge you professionally?

- Do you gain valuable insights from your interactions?

- Do you look forward to your next meeting or collaboration?

If the answer is consistently "no," it might be time to reassess that relationship.

This isn't about cutting ties abruptly or burning bridges. It's about recognizing that our time and energy are finite resources. Just as we wouldn't keep outdated technology or ineffective strategies in our business, we shouldn't maintain professional relationships out of mere habit or misplaced loyalty.

Remember, this test works both ways. We should strive to be that valuable connection for others in our network too.

So, how can you apply this test to your professional circle?

1. Reflect on your current network.

2. Identify the value each connection brings.

3. Invest more in high-value relationships.

4. Have honest conversations where necessary.

5. Be open to new connections that align with your goals.

Your network is a crucial asset in your professional journey. By consciously curating it, you're not just respecting your own time and potential – you're also ensuring authenticity in your interactions.

What's your take on this approach? Have you ever had to reassess a professional relationship? Share your experiences and insights in the comments below.

Let's start a meaningful conversation about building and maintaining valuable professional networks in today's dynamic business landscape.

Great thoughts here Josh and I agree wholehartedly. In this fast paced world of "likes and followers" we can get trapped into the numbers. But your points on quality vs. quantity if valid. I've been pretty critical in who I follow and who I accept as a contact, not to mention cutting ties with meaningless or self-serving followers. While I don't have a ton of followers, I can say that I do my best to stay connected to the ones that I do have. Good stuff, sir!
