The Time to Prepare Our Kids for Programming Literacy is Now
It’s my opinion that parents of every pupil or student in every school, at every level in our country, should demand that all students be taught how to code.
I strongly believe this skill is needed for the future of our children. Not because all our kids should end up in a career in tech, but because computer science impacts almost every professional career you can think about in the world today and in the foreseeable future.
If you’ve ever sat down with kids in any kind of computer science class, you’ll understand that from a developmental perspective, the type of thinking that goes into learning to code is very sophisticated. It’s complex, multifaceted, and requires children to think deeply, rather than memorising information based on repetition.
That’s the kind of thinking you want your kids to be doing for healthy expression of creativity, critical thinking, and abstract thinking.
More so, when your kids code they learn a lot of soft skills. One soft skill I think is important for our children today is patience. Our kids must learn to be patient because the first person that you need to have patience with when programming is yourself.
Our Experience So Far
In 2019, we started a holiday program for kids which we called Kids Code.
This year, that program has grown to be formally known as Seven Kids Code. Back in 2019, our mission was to:
Help children come into confident possession of their innate talents and improve the technological skills they need to succeed in tomorrow's challenging digitized economy.
That mission has not changed. It just got more important because of what we have been able to achieve for the past two years.
However, just like with everything in life, it is important that a balance must be maintained. So we came up with a curriculum appropriate for different ages which is available on our website.
Our Commitment to Pupils and Parents
We make a pledge of excellence to every parent or carer who chooses to send their child during holidays to Seven Kids Code. We pledge:
High expectations
We have the highest of expectations for our pupils throughout the four weeks they spend with us. We expect pupils to come to class ready to participate and interact with the community.
Our classrooms provide safe, focused and happy environments for learning. Outstanding behaviour improves pupils’ capacity to learn. We enforce our behaviour policy robustly and consistently for both pupils and instructors.
We work hard to create a culture of high aspirations for the time your child is with us. We set ambitious targets for every pupil which they realize and present at the end of four weeks. Our aim is that every pupil should get hands-on experience higher than the national expectation in schools.
A high-powered, knowledge-based academic curriculum
Seven Kids Code’s curriculum is balanced. Kids will be introduced to digital tools, programming, computer science, electronics and robotics.
Our curriculum is designed to cultivate well-rounded, intelligent and tech-aware pupils. Regardless of background or prior ability, we aim to secure the best outcomes for all of our pupils, ensuring that our curriculum gives a solid foundation for tomorrow’s digitized economy.
Highly motivated instructors willing to help kids grow
We believe that the most effective learning goes hand-in-hand with the most inspirational teaching, which is why our instructors have been trained by us. They are highly motivated and benefit from extensive training and continued professional development. This support means they deliver the very best outcomes for pupils, helping them to realize their potential.
I'd like to know what you think about coding for kids.
Visit our website to enroll your kid(s) and pay XAF 30.000 (per child) online.
We’re accepting registrations for kids between the ages of 4 - 18. Because many parents are interested, we’re organizing two sessions. One in July and another in August.
