Is it time for a Pivot?

Is it time for a Pivot?

Last Friday, I had the honor of sharing my personal journey with a group of aspiring tech professionals in Missouri, as a part of a professional development program I co-created. The more I shared, the more I thought about you and thought you might be interested, too. (Especially if you're feeling the nudge to shift directions in your own life.)

Life is a series of pivotal moments—decisions that can redefine our paths.

Honestly, my life has been a continuous string of pivots, both major and minor, that have brought me to where I am today. Some pivots followed heartbreak and loss, while others were a subtle soul whisper that something needed to change.?

Often, we find ourselves in familiar situations that, deep down, we know don't serve us.?

That's when the power of the PIVOT can be exactly what is needed.?

Here is the breakdown that I shared with the group…

  • P - Pivot - This is the moment you decide to choose yourself. It's about stepping out of your comfort zone and leaping into the unknown, trusting that either you'll grow wings or a net will appear. At 25, I left my corporate job, not knowing what was next but certain I needed a change. Despite the raised eyebrows, opinions, judgments and doubts from others, that decision was one of the best I've ever made.
  • I - Investigate - After you pivot, let your curiosity lead the way. Become a detective in your own life. Dive into podcasts, books, and seek mentors who challenge and expand your perspective. This isn't just about learning—it's about re-learning everything you thought you knew about life and yourself. After leaving corporate life, I took a year to focus on personal growth and health, which eventually led me to start my journey as an online health coach. That pivot has opened the doors for me to do so much over the past 15 years.
  • V - Values- As you embrace your pivot, clarifying your values is crucial—they are your North Star. Misalignment can lead to profound setbacks, as I've experienced firsthand. I've found that most people aren't really clear about their values - either they are outdated, inherited or non-existent.? Taking the time to get clear on what truly matters to you, why it matters, and what a life aligned with those values looks like will help you build a firm foundation as you honor your pivot.
  • O - Opportunity-Focused - In your new journey, open yourself to new opportunities. Say "yes" to things you might have scoffed at before. Be bold and courageous. When I began sharing about my online health coaching, I noticed many around me were also struggling with health issues. Helping them opened even more doors—it's like suddenly noticing red cars everywhere after you decide you want to buy one. What we focus on, grows, so keeping your eyes peeled for opportunities is key!
  • T - Trust - Trust is just as crucial as the decision to pivot. It's challenging to stay the course, especially when progress isn't immediately visible. One of my favorite quotes from The Alchemist is, "And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." This belief has sustained my faith in the process, especially when things felt like they moving slow. As you embrace your pivot,? commit daily to it, take imperfect action, and don't give up, even when it's tough.

If you are at a place where you are feeling the call to pivot, here are a few questions that may help you:

  1. What am I holding onto that I know deep down isn't serving me?
  2. What values are most important to me and what does a life aligned with those values look like?
  3. What small step can I take today that aligns with my desired pivot, even if it feels uncomfortable?

Making a pivot can be daunting, but it's often the first step towards a more fulfilling and authentic life. Whether your pivot is big or small, remember it's about making intentional choices that align with your deepest values and aspirations.

So, what's your next move? Comment below and let me know what you have planned for your PIVOT. I can't wait to support you and celebrate you!
