A time for optimism...

I received this note from my good friend Kent Gustavson and had to share – it is important!

A Time for Optimism? 

Here’s my argument for optimism. Bear with me. Then reach out to me at the bottom of this letter, if it feels right. 

How many hours of news coverage can you stand? For me … it takes about 90 seconds to be filled with some negative emotion or another.

And how many more messages do we need to receive that say, “Here’s a happy thought,” — a quick scroll through my feed and I see at least 7 posts from well-meaning friends with meaning-light messages or memes.

When people are troubled, as in today’s troubled world, they look for meaning, for hope. They look towards dawn in the dark night. And for a breath of fresh air while shut in a stale room.

Humans yearn for good news after the bad …

It might be a while. 

It might be a long time until things get back to the way they “used to be.” 

Who am I kidding? The world has changed, forever. It will never be the same again. And those who are seeking a return to what was, are hiding from the reality of what IS.

Things will become good again. (Don’t you believe that, as I do?) But they will be different, and we will have to go through some trying times.

We have a duty now. 

You and I have a duty. And a need.

Many of us have skills, unique skills, and it is time that we step up and act like the leaders we were destined to become.

In times of darkness, the world needs people to shine a light on the path forward. To make a difference.

Are you one of the leaders who can make a difference? Who can show others the way forward?

I’ve been asking myself this question, and I’ve been speaking to friends, colleagues, authors, trainers, coaches, facilitators, lawyers, bankers, CEOs, and entrepreneurs. They know where the path is, they know how to guide others... but they don’t know how to magnify their voice.

I have spent decades teaching people how to magnify their voice. How to find their niche and how to write their book — 

But today’s world needs far more than a book with a clever title that sells well.

The world needs solutions. Solutions that YOU already have. Solutions that can be taught, and solutions that change the future path.

In my mind, no matter how bad things get, THIS is the reason for optimism. Together we will work hard, and we will change the world. 

But we need a platform — otherwise we will be one voice in a sea of voices. We need to stick our head above the crowd and be the calm voice of reason in the room. 

“Follow me.”

The world needs us right now. To cut through the noise of fear and panic. To point the way.
