The Time Off

Do you work for an organization that has a policy around time off?? Does it work for you and bring the balance and mental energy restoration each of us needs in life?

I was recently challenged about our time off practice.? Someone interested in working for us wondered if our unlimited time off benefited the individual or the organization the most.? My response was twofold – How do I model time off to the team?? How does the team practice our core value of – BREATHE?? Somewhere in there would be the answer.? Because I don’t believe it is a one size fits all answer.

Time off needs to be connected to an organization’s core value that focuses on well-being.? For us, that is BREATHE – Pause & reflect. Find energy in balanced well-being.

How do you live that value?? What do you need for balance?? What time do you need to restore your mental energy?? Everyone should pause, reflect and act on their individual well-being.

How do I role model this value?? Well, when you are reading this Wondering Wednesday, I will not be in Milwaukee.? Where in the world is Shawn?? I will be in one of my favorite places escaping and restoring.? Will I be thinking about work and our clients?? Yes.? Will I have my laptop?? No.? Members of my team said, “don’t take it.”? I followed their advice. I live our BREATHE value.? It allows me to be my best self upon my return.

Can there be a policy that fits everyone’s well-being?? No.? Can there be an organizational value that guides people and aligns to their own personal values?? Yes.?

And just where in the world is Shawn?
