I woke up to the voice of Ben Bruce-Murray pleading with Nigerians to save an apparently sinking economy by patronizing local organisations in different sectors of Nigeria, ending his speech with "Save Naija by increasing the value of Naira".
I was saddled by grief thinking how much sweat and blood our forefathers invested in this country. All for what??? I'm certain they would all roll in their graves at a glimpse of mother Nigeria, for non would have foreseen the giant of Africa becoming only but a pauper. Renowned Chinua Achebe wrote in relation to the early precolonial era, 'Things fall apart and the center can no longer hold", however in relation to the present post-colonial era, things have clearly fallen apart and the center is long lost to corruption and greed. The nation is in chaos. The misery and decadence enveloping the nation has not only succeeded in plunging the poor further into misery but even the rich are rigged by the fear of poverty.
Gone are the days you watch or read the news with hopeful expectation of good tidings. Nigerian have being termed a lost cause by not only the international community but also majority of its sons and daughters, resolving to their fate and choosing to remain indifferent to the down-troll of our country. The present leaders turn blind eyes to the apparent decadence, choosing to run instead to the aid of other countries while ours rot in a putrid waste of hopeless debris.
The likes of Ben Bruce-Murray who proffer solutions to a clearly helpless situation remains the ray of sunshine in the darkness. Its however sad that some either ignorant or obviously foolish Nigerians with no clearly proffered solution still choose to remain stubborn. Resting their stance against local organisations on the inferiority of their products. But i ask, where do we go from here? At best 'talk your own' for even Rome was not built in a day.
The bible says that we should not despise little beginnings. For once lets take a step together towards our promise land. Discard of our suppose leaders like the incompetent Judges of old in the bible. For the time to take our destinies into our own hands and turn this country for the better is now!!!!!
