Time Management

Time Management

Whether you are in your first year at university or preparing for a career following your studies, time management is a skill you should carry throughout your academic and professional life. Here at CY Partners, working in the busy world of Scientific Recruitment, we are experienced in managing our time effectively and have prepared a guide to help you manage your schedule, be productive and (hopefully) stay stress-free!

1. Make a List

Studies show crossing things off of a list is a natural stress-reliever, so compile a list of everything you need to do throughout your week. List your most important tasks first, and watch the list shorten as you progress through the week. You’d be surprised at how much you get done just by writing it down. Allocate your time wisely, yet realistically. After you create a list of objectives make sure to plan ahead so you have plenty of time to accomplish them. At the same time, be sure to give yourself time for leisure, working out, etc. Balance is a key to mental and physical health — be sure to have some flexibility whilst completing your list.

 2. Avoid procrastination

This is easier said than done! Though you might be a professional at completing essays the day before they are due, you will be given future tasks that involve productivity and planning. Preparing for a job interview, a big presentation or a meeting require you to be knowledgeable of specific material and ready to discuss it.

3. Tell your friends

If you have a big assignment or interview coming up, let your friends know. If you suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out), ask your friends to not invite you to events until your tasks are completed. You’ll end up feeling less guilty and you’ll be much less distracted.

4. Reflect on your productivity

Did you prioritise incorrectly? Did you achieve the tasks you set yourself? Don’t be afraid to look back and make changes to better prepare you for the next big task at hand. The more comfortable you get with your own routine, the easier it will be to get everything done.

Throughout your career, carrying these skills and practising good habits will take you a long way. Instead of fretting about your busy schedule, follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to a productive week.
