Time to Make Networks Smart

Many may think of RDN as a Radio & Satellite Telemetry company, that is or shall I say was true, More and more we are being asked to develop innovative solutions that can be retrofitted to existing infrastructure to not just monitor, but also to control in real-time.

RDNET, the radio protocol that we developed back in 2010, is perfect for both local real-time control and remote monitoring, As a consequence it has been used already as part of a number of revolutionary real-time control systems in the utility sector with great success, controlling both wastewater and water supply assets.

Where RDNNET and our system comes into their own, its it ability to work / bridge between legacy systems such as pumping stations, smart network sensors or traditional 4-20mA devices and switches, to permit existing assets to be simply upgraded and brought into the 21st century.

Aside from controlling our Sewer Flow Regulators, we are creating system to inhibit pumps to prevent flooding during storms, based upon live downstream level readings. This technique has been used to inhibit the emptying of sewage wet wells to rainwater lagoons.

However, what is not often appreciated is the ability of the systems to also deliver an IoT service too, but unlike LoRa or NBIoT where the data granularity and latency can be high due to network restrictions and cost, RDNET solutions can be created that deliver data by the minute or even the second if required.

In the UK, we also offer a enhanced resilience service where RDNET operates over a UK government exclusive licenced radio channel. As we write, these channels carry circa over half a billion customer messages per year,

Simply, by using what is there, making a network smart using real-time sensors and controls we believe is a big step forward to reducing carbon emissions, improving supply resilliance and cutting pollution.
