What is Time Machine?

It’s a question I’ve had the privilege to answer many times by now; and with increasing frequency, as interest grows. Time Machine began because as a lover of the science of artificial intelligence, as an entrepreneur, and as a citizen of the world, I saw a gap. Even as the age of AI begins in earnest, too many businesspeople, policymakers, and thought leaders seem to be stuck on platitudes—the “human in the loop,” or the claim that AI will create jobs for each one it displaces, or even the idea that we can restrict AI with ill-thought-out bans—as if by merely believing strongly enough, they can hold back the titanic force of change that is AI.

This approach can only accomplish one thing: keep us from confronting the reality of technological change, and preparing ourselves in earnest. There are too many important conversations we still need to have on the societal changes AI will bring, and dodging them serves no one. So the global AI conference that is Time Machine began as a place to have those conversations.

But it’s more than that. Artificial intelligence isn’t simply a problem to be solved; it’s an incredible well of new possibilities. It’s smart cities that can collect and analyze data to help create a new, better urban infrastructure. It’s healthcare that more people can access and afford. It’s predictive algorithms that can monitor critical industrial systems so operators know what’s going to fail, when, and how to avoid it. It’s a host of brand-new mediums and materials for creative works.

This, then, is Time Machine: a gathering of hundreds of key decision-makers, C-level executives, top journalists, policymakers, industry leaders, and military professionals coming together to discuss how AI and exponential technologies are being used today to shape the world of the future.

This year, we have already confirmed speakers such as John Chambers, former CEO of Cisco; Admiral John M. Richardson (Ret.), former U.S. Chief of Naval Operations; Former Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work; General Thomas, former head of SOCOM; Ramon Moreno, CTO of Mitsui & Co Power Americas; Rahul Kapoor, Global Head of Services and Engineering at the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence; Bill Burnham, CTO of Public Sector for Hewlett Packard; and many other industry leaders. Past speakers have included top executives from Boeing, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, U.S. DoD, State Street Bank, Apergy, Honeywell, GE, and many other industry stalwarts, as well as the leading minds in academia and cutting-edge research.

What is the most important thing all of these speakers and all our attendees have in common? Their desire to write the future—and their understanding that the time to do so is now.

What is Time Machine? Time Machine is the one place where you will learn everything you want to know about artificial intelligence, and everything you need to know to be ready for the future ahead.

I hope you’ll join us.

I was somewhat concerned when we launched Time Machine but was quickly blown away by the incredible first edition of the conference. Even more impressive was that the second edition outclassed the first edition. I just cannot wait for this year’s edition which promises to be the best conference on Artificial intelligence in 2019.
