I spend my weekends trying to catch up with friends, colleagues and acquaintances on phone to see how they are doing, how they are coping up, how is their mental health etc. Its not only for their mental health but also for my well being. There is something that I can learn from them which would make like my life better.
A few things which I find ubiquitous and pervasive on all the calls are as below :
- We are working more hours as compared to BC (Before Corona Times)
- We are working weekends and zoom calls span throughout the day
- Our laptop and phone time has gone up multifold
- Most of the days have to check calendar or phone to confirm date and day
- Weekends come and go without bringing the accompanied joy
- No fixed time or no time for workout
In short, we are all experiencing TIME LAPSE in SLOW MOTION.
I don’t want to give a lecture on how to work as its entirely upto yours and your boss’s convenience. But having said that unless you bring some discipline in your schedule no one else will. Unless you decide what is important , no one else with.
I am sharing a few things which I have been doing and I must say it is helping me in staying productive and sane.
1. Keep defined working hours even if they are longer than your older days. I have kept my hours at 9:30 AM to 7 PM.
2. Keep a fixed workout time, Morning or evening depending on your convenience. Be loyal to your body and that hour should be without any official phone calls. If your clients or bosses call during that time, tell them you are working out and will get back soon. After a few days people will remember your time and stop bothering you.
3. Ensure you contribute and help in daily house chores. Talk to your family members and take some responsibilities so you can manage your time accordingly.
4. Have a fixed workplace in your house. Trust me it brings more discipline to your attitude towards your work, subconsciously.
5. Lastly, spend 30 min on something you really love doing. Be it writing, reading, painting, photography etc.just something which rejuvenates your soul.
If you try to follow the above I believe you are bound to have Carpe diem moments more often than you expect.
You will be in control of the time and you can still make 2020 count, before the TIME – LAPSE !!
