Time

Time

Defined as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. Time is also viewed as a resource, something that can be used or lost, measured or managed.

This week’s word is Time because how we perceive and use time affects every aspect of our lives. Time can feel abundant or scarce, and how we manage it can deeply influence our personal growth, relationships, and productivity.

As many of you know, we’ve decided to sell our home. This decision has taken time—quite a lot, to be honest. What I hadn’t bargained for was how much time it would take to prepare our home for sale, alongside managing my regular work. This last month, time has felt in short supply! It’s been a learning curve for me in managing time without feeling overwhelmed.

How do you manage your time when life throws extra demands at you? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your thoughts!

How This Week’s Word Relates to...

The Relationship You Have with Yourself

Your relationship with time is often a reflection of your relationship with yourself. Are you prioritising your own time? Do you carve out moments for rest, reflection, or personal growth, or are you constantly filling your schedule with tasks that leave you feeling drained?

A dear friend recently joined me for some time-management reflection. He’s a bit like a hamster on a wheel—task after task, day in, day out—feeling like he can’t stop. Despite living in a beautiful part of the country, with gorgeous walks on his doorstep, he was missing the small joys around him. Ok, so this view is quite a big one and it's from his patio!

Together, in just 90 minutes, we found ways to allocate importance to time for himself, and to break free from that endless task list.

This simple shift in perspective showed him that taking control of his time is an act of self-care. Have you ever felt like this? If so, what small changes could you make to create more intentional moments for yourself? I’d love to hear how you might approach it!

The Relationships You Have with Loved Ones

Time is one of the most valuable things we can offer our loved ones. Whether it’s making time for an uninterrupted conversation, or spending a Sunday afternoon together, quality time strengthens our bonds.

My children are all grown now, and two of them are frequently on the road for work. When they come home, they make it a priority to spend quality time with their loved ones—whether that’s bath time with the baby, walking the dog, or simply unwinding on the sofa. The tasks can wait after a week away!

How do you prioritise time with those who matter most to you? Do you create moments of connection, or does time together get lost in the shuffle of day-to-day life?

The Relationships You Have in Your Professional or Business Life

In business, time management often feels like the holy grail of productivity. But it’s more than just ticking boxes—it’s about making time work for you. I was at a networking event this week, and we talked about the challenges of boundary setting. It’s easy to feel like you need more hours in the day as a business owner, but squeezing personal time too tightly can lead to burnout.

I shared my thoughts on how crucial it is to recognise when you need to step back, recharge, and reset. Your business thrives when you do. Have you found ways to set boundaries in your professional life that allow you to protect your energy?

How Did Last Week’s Word Show Up for Me?

Last week, my word was Energy. It came at a time when I felt my batteries were running low from all the rushing around. My husband and I stayed with friends for a few days, and it was the perfect way to recharge. We had wonderful conversations, long walks, and even the odd nap (yes, two hours one afternoon for me!).

It reminded me that, just like charging a car, we all need to stop, plug in, and recharge.

How did Energy show up for you last week? Did you take time to recharge, or did it slip away? I’d love to hear your experiences.

Hi Julia, time is so precious and something we can't get back once it's past...I used to be strict with myself as I'd often find myself jumping from job to job spending way too much time on one thing and getting overwhelmed in a day with everything that needed to be done. I personally found setting time limits has helped me in the past. Writing a list of what I'd like to achieve in a day or half a day and breaking my jobs down on how long I wanted to spend doing each one and setting a timer. I achieve so much more and less faffing. I really need to start doing this again as it helped organize my time more efficiently. Great read thank you!
