Worst day for Adani Group stocks in two weeks as investors lose Rs 51,000 crore

The fall in Adani Group stocks continues with total market capitalisation of the group companies tumbling below Rs 8 lakh crore today, a fall of more than Rs 51,000 crore from yesterday’s level.

It’s the biggest single-day fall in last two weeks i.e. since February 14. And, since January 24, the day US-based Hindenburg Research released its report on Adani Group, alleging fraud, the Gautam Adani-led group has seen its market cap slide by almost Rs 12 lakh crore, a fall of more than 60% from the peak.

India’s UPI and Singapore’s PayNow linked — What this means and who will it benefit

India’s real-time retail payment system Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been linked with its equivalent network in Singapore called Paynow to enable faster remittances between the two countries. With this, people in both countries can send money in real-time via a QR code or by simply entering the mobile number linked to their bank accounts.

With the integration, residents of Singapore and India can instantly transfer money to each other via UPI and PayNow.

Bernie Sanders suggests that it is time to implement a four-day work week

US Senator Bernie Sanders has joined the conversation on the four-day work week, calling for a shift towards this new way of working with no loss of pay. Sanders, a well-known progressive from Vermont, took to Twitter to voice his opinion, stating that "With exploding technology and increased worker productivity, it's time to move toward a four-day work week with no loss of pay. Workers must benefit from technology, not just corporate CEOs."

Indian employees could contribute $508 billion to GDP with digital upskilling, says study

IT employees in India who utilize advanced digital skills — this includes cloud architecture and software development — could contribute an estimated $507.9 billion to the national GDP, a study has revealed.

Conducted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and management consulting firm Gallup, the Asia Pacific Digital Skills Study confirmed that up-skilling could also result in 92 percent higher pay. The skills include those like AI, machine learning, quantum computing and block-chain.

Attending one of the world’s top-ranked educational institutions in Europe and North America is a dream that many students have. Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath addressed this in a recent tweet.

Kamath tweeted two infographics showing rising outflow of students to universities outside India. Compiled by InvestyWise , the data shows that the number of students choosing to study outside the country in 2022 went up by 44.87 percent from 2018. The total outflow of students last year was 7.5 lakh. The number of Indians going to the UK has risen by a whopping 480 percent.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently put an import restriction on pharmaceutical products?manufactured by Chennai-based Global Pharma Healthcare Pvt Ltd, after?the company’s eye drops were linked to an outbreak of drug-resistant bacteria?across the US, which reportedly infected 55 and led to the death of one person.

While issuing the import restriction notice to Global Pharma, the FDA cited multiple violations of manufacturing regulations by the company,?including a “lack of appropriate microbial testing” and a “lack of proper controls?concerning tamper-evident packaging”.

SEBI lays down guidelines on cybersecurity for regulated entities

The . (SEBI) has put out an advisory for SEBI Regulated Entities (REs) regarding cybersecurity best practices to limit cyber threats and phishing attacks. SEBI has asked all REs, including financial sector organisations, stock exchanges, depositories, mutual funds and other financial entities, to provide compliance of the advisory along with their cybersecurity audit report.

The circular put out by SEBI noted that cyber incidents have been rapidly growing in frequency and sophistication.?

Apple Watch bands could change colours based on your outfit

Apple is researching a way to add a colour change function to the Apple Watch band that matches the wearer's clothing and alerts the wearer to information.

According to?AppleInsider, a newly-granted patent appears to show it doing just that. Instead of purchasing multiple Watch bands to match different outfits, "Watch Band With Adjustable Colour" suggests that users purchase just one that changes colour. "Users may desire the ability to customise their watch bands to express variety and style," according to the newly-granted patent.

Reducing US visa wait times as India is top priority, say officials

US visa wait time has dropped to nearly 700 days in February from 1,000 days in January. Officials on February 21 said India was the "number one priority" for the United States and that there had been about a 36 percent jump in visa processing across the country.

Reflecting on the inordinate delays in the issuance of US visas and getting appointments for them, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Visa Services in the Bureau of Consular Affairs Julie Stufft said, "We are absolutely committed to getting out of this situation. Anyone in India seeking a visa appointment or visa has to wait because — that's not certainly our ideal."
