Assisted living and long-term care facilities need to be held to higher standards. They should follow stricter staffing requirements, implement comprehensive training programs, and prioritize residents' and staff's safety and well-being. Action is needed, whether the facilities are taking control to improve their overall care or on a state level.?

In Pennsylvania, AL facilities do not require licensed staff or nurses. This is a significant issue as the acuity of care continues to rise. Many residents in these facilities have complex medical needs, yet staff-to-resident ratios and level of staff training remain unchanged.?These unlicensed staff members deserve the proper training and knowledge, which is not provided in many facilities.

Nurses and staff members in these facilities must speak up and make their voices heard. It's time for corporate leaders of these facilities to take accountability and recognize that these residents deserve better care. It is time to prioritize the care of our elderly population because they truly deserve it.
