The time has passed when sustainability in business could be ignored
Henrik Henriksson
Chief Executive Officer at Stegra (previously H2 Green Steel), Board Member and Author.
Progressive stakeholders representing politics, academia and industry are proactively joining forces and forming partnerships to solve social and environmental challenges around the world.
Some of these challenges are at the top of the agenda at COP23. I am following the meeting with great interest.
Modern companies play an important role in catalysing sustainable change in the societies in which they are active
Scania does, in the many different interactions we have in our daily operations. When driving sustainable development, lines between traditional roles such as customer, customer’s customer, partner, supplier and competitor are blurring. It’s more an ecosystem we belong to now, and we have to have a 360-view of what is going on around us, absorb it, and respond to it.
With some 49.000 employees globally Scania impacts society directly and indirectly. We have customers in over 100 markets. We have close to 300.000 connected vehicles that are data collection points and constitute a great potential to improve transport efficiency and enable more sustainable transport.
Companies today must take on discussions in society that relate to them - this is tightly connected to the ability to continue to drive sustainable and profitable business. At Scania, we are both active and proactive and we want to be part of relevant discussions. We provide solutions here and now for sustainable transport which will be needed to deliver on the Paris-agreement. There is no time to wait, we need to act now! At Scania, we have started the journey to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system – together with all sectors of society.
Some 30 years ago the general view was that companies should focus on their products and leave it at that. We see what is happening around us and we cannot stand idly to the side and wait for someone else to take action. 30 years from today, I want to be able to say that we took an active part in driving the change.

7 年I do miss the family,Communication is the biggest part of any business if that fails all is lost,Key is to listen to your customer and go that extra mile. So many have become complacement and forgot the whole reason why they there in the first place. Dialogue is a healthy way to resolve matters in a broader vision, not just for the business but also for your customer.

7 年This is a good approach. Communication and dialog will be one vital part to create the opportunities for the solutions we need in terms of sustainable development and sustainable cities (of course including the fundamental part transportation).
