Time Hack for Leaders to Gain a 30x Return on Time with Less Stress and More Fulfillment

Time Hack for Leaders to Gain a 30x Return on Time with Less Stress and More Fulfillment

It's what everyone dreams of.

Having less stress and more fulfillment.

But for leaders, it seems to be a major challenge to accomplish.

However, it should be very simple!

The problem is we don't REALLY understand the value of the work we do.

This leads to doing a lot of valueless work.

So, what is the true value of our work?

What is the Value of a Minute?

The average Executive Leader in the United States earns $111,434 per year.

For ease, we'll estimate a little higher than this to say that an executive's time is worth $1/minute.

This totals $124,800 per year, assuming 40-hour weeks, 5 days/week.

For an executive's time to be worth it to a company (whether they own the company or simply work for it), their time should AT LEAST equal their cost.

Really it is ideal for every employee to attain 10x their cost to cover things like overhead, training and development, unforeseen expenses, and profit.

However, most Executives barely cover their own worth.

How Most Executives Use Their Time

If you have ever heard of the Pareto Principle, then you have an idea of how most Executives use their time.

They use 80% of their time to get 20% of their results (99,840 mins/year to get $24,960 worth of results).

Then use 20% of their time to get 80% of their results (24,960 mins/year to get $99,840 worth of results).

The low-value items tend to be activities like long meetings, reading emails, thinking about doing high-value work but not taking action, and often doing work that should be done by others.

On average, people can typically do 10-15 tasks in a workday.

So, if we go high and say you do 15 tasks daily, there are only 3 tasks that get you 80% of your results, and the other 12 tasks get you only 20% of your results.

If you actually look at that, those 12 tasks get you only a 1/4 return on your work.

That's like spending $1 and only getting $0.25 back each time.

On the other hand, the 3 high-value tasks get you an average of 4x return.

That's like spending $1 and getting back $4 each time.

Leaders Need to Understand Time Value 2-Steps Deeper

We understand the Pareto Principle, but there is also an Extreme Pareto and what I will call the Atomic Pareto.

There are 3 tasks that make up the 20% of activities that achieve 80% of results.

However, these tasks should not be treated equally.

Of these, you need to do 80/20 two more times and get this:

  • Leaders spend 16% of their time on 1 task to get a 1x return
  • Leaders spend 3.2% of their time on 1 task to get a 4x return
  • Leaders spend 0.8% of their time on 1 task to get a 64x return

That is right, most executives spend less than 20 minutes a week actually DOING work that gets them a 64x return.

This is the value of the Atomic Pareto.

1 task, 64x return.

From Here, Reverse the Percentages

With this understanding, it is easy to get a 30x return on your time.

Don't spend 20% of your time on what gets 80% results.

Instead, spend 80% of your time on what gets 80% results.

Also, spend a disproportionate amount of time on your #1 Task that gets a 64x return.

This is what a week should look like:

At Least 1,228.8 Minutes (20 hours) on #1 Priority = $78,643.2 Value

At Least 307.2 Minutes (5 hours) on #2 Priority = $1,228.8 Value

  • Split the remaining tasks in the 864 Minutes Left - Avg. 66.46 Mins/Task

With this, your $2,400/week cost attains over $90,000 worth of results.

This is over 30x return!

You can actually extract more value by getting rid of any tasks that earn you less of a return than your worth (Tasks #4-#12) and allocating that time to tasks that are at least your worth (Tasks #1-#3)

How This Creates Less Stress and More Fufillment

By changing how you spend time in this way, a few things happen.

Typically, your #1 and #2 tasks are your most enjoyable work and are more likely to put you into Flow States.

Flow States are the Psychological state of being where we do our best work and feel our best.

These states also create a Neurochemical cocktail that naturally reduces stress, creates more self-fulfillment, and makes us seek out those activities more often.

This means it'll become easier to do your top tasks more often and become better at them!

Plus, by offloading and spending less time on the other tasks, you will have less work, will likely have more qualified people handling that work, and overall will be less stressed!

This is a major key to dramatic success for leaders!
