A time to give thanks

A time to give thanks

As a habit—especially over the past 18 months—I try to remain thankful about the blessings in my life. But this week is always a special occasion to reflect, appreciate, and look ahead.

As someone who was a credit union believer long before this pandemic, I’m thankful for this movement that puts people over profit, Main Street over Wall Street, and the member above all else.

I’m also thankful for:?

  • The commitment this movement has made to promoting financial well-being for all. Credit unions in every phase of the journey are collaborating to ensure we can continue our financial inclusion work.?
  • The leaders in this movement who live the credit union difference every day. They’re the ones who meet their members’ needs, and work alongside CUNA and the Leagues to ensure we continue our work to revolutionize credit unions’ operating environment.?
  • The more than 120 million people who have chosen credit unions as their best financial partner. We’re in the business of working with our members throughout their financial journey, and we’re fortunate to be able to do so.?

I wish you a safe, restful, and happy Thanksgiving.?

Hope Credit Union CEO named Heinz Award winner

Project Storm Break helps Haitian CUs stay open

Shout out to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, whose Project Storm Break helped six Haitian credit unions get back to serving their members after the August earthquake. The grant was issued to the World Council of Credit Union’s affiliate member organization in Haiti, which used it to buy and distribute emergency tents, IT supplies, and other operational equipment to the six credit unions located near the epicenter.

360-degree advocacy

  • CUNA advocacy leaders met with NCUA Chairman Todd Harper this week to discuss cryptocurrency and other areas of interest to credit unions.??
  • We wrote in support of the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s proposed amendments to the Enterprise Regulatory Capital Framework, and urged the FHFA to do analyses on the effect of the cost of credit for future amendments.
  • We supported a bill that would prevent the U.S. Small Business Administration from becoming a direct SBA lender.
