Time to get out of your comfort zone

Time to get out of your comfort zone

Planning to push yourself to the next level is all about leaving your comfort zone on purpose.

Are you feeling like things are moving just fine at work or home?

I ask because it's often not discussed. Now that the Winter Olympics have been airing, some of their stories are compelling in how they share their struggles, their training, their failures, having to travel and be away from family, dealing with trauma, and their tenacity.

It made me ask myself the very same question. Am I in my comfort zone?

My takeaway from these stories was this:

Push yourself Every Day.

Not only do they consistently push themselves, They're never in their comfort zone. All of the training over years amounts to seconds, perhaps minutes, in a quest to prove the best. Yet many consistently feel like it's just not good enough.

I don't know about you, but when I look back at my career, the times When I was achieving my best results were beyond challenging. I was uncomfortable, stressed, feeling inadequate even.

But I told myself, "Grant, you need to get out of your comfort zone and fast." Finally, Things became systematic and practically on autopilot.

So, to practice what I preach, I am going to let out a little vulnerability and share that I am taking on new roles that present different challenges again. I’m forcing myself to get out of my comfort zone.

Does it feel good? Not really at times, but I know the rewards are far better than the growing pains I’m going through now and I know it is the right path to take.

So if you’re struggling to get out of your comfort zone, here are some tips to help.

Because you are about to go through some change, ensure your friends and family are aware of what and why you're doing this.

Be prepared to share your vision and goals with your team and colleagues. Make them aware that you’ll be venturing out of your comfort zone so that they can properly support you.

Changes are like seasons.

Share with everyone that perhaps you will be doing whatever you are looking to do for the next season. Remember, farmers never have perfect seasons growing their crops. Some seasons may have a drought or even flooding. The trick is the tenacity to plan, till the soil and adjust.

Reach out to me if you need support. I’m rooting for you. Until next time, Cheers!
