Some people view time management as a list of rules that involve scheduling of appointments, goal settings, and to-do lists. That’s only a small portion of it. It’s about getting desired results, not about being “busy.”

View it as honoring an agreement you make with yourself about your activities, getting the desired results and not just being busy, you’ll find yourself making humongous strides in your productivity by changing your perspective.

That’s the mindset part of it. There are however some fundamentals of time management that must be understood. Especially if you’re going to scale, expand and have a real business, you should make it a priority to develop your skills in that area.

When it comes to time management, though, it takes a lot more skills than the core basics. It will require a mindset change & perspective. It’s also going to take skills such as quick decision making, inherent abilities such as emotional intelligence and critical thinking. are also essential to your personal growth because there are so many things demanding our time and energy. So much so, many of us wished we had more of it just to accomplish the few things we had planned.

One of the best ways to add more time in your day is to examine wasted fragments. You know, those small and seemingly insignificant things that add up to be hours of our time that you never considered before. A few minutes here and there. For example, if I’m writing or creating content, I don’t have time to stop and check email, texts or social media. You may think of it as being 10 or 15 seconds to respond to a text but those insignificant fragments add up.

Think of it like jars of pennies. Daily you keep throwing a few pennies here and there and before long you discover you have accumulated hundreds of dollars.

So how does all this tie together? Well like money time is valuable; like money, it’s a commodity and like money it requires stewardship.

Good stewardship begins with being able to find those leaks and fragments and “waste nothing.”John 6:12

The bottom line is personal time management involves everything you do. It doesn’t matter how big or small, everything counts. Each new nugget of knowledge you acquire, advice you consider, or skill you develop should be taken into consideration when making that agreement with yourself.

Personal time management should not be a daunting task. It is a very sensible and reasonable approach to solving problems big or small.

3 tips to keep you from depleting your productivity bank:

  • Review your goals often, whether it be immediate or long-term goals. Do it keeping your vision board or a list of goals always accessible to you.
  • Always determine which activity is necessary (or not) in achieving your goals and which activities are helping you maintain a balanced lifestyle.
  • Learning to say "NO!". You actually see this advice often. Heed it even if it involves saying the word to family or friends.

Remember don’t let your productivity bank become depleted, make sure to recover and capture those time fragments and waste nothing!
