Time is flying by, how is this effecting your Work-Life balance?
It’s almost March and just about everyone I speak to starts their greeting with ‘can you believe it’s already nearly March and we’ve only just had New Year?’. Managing work-life balance, especially when time seems to be flying by, is crucial for overall well-being and productivity. I am very fortunate to work with a company who cares about my well-being and needs. A company that really wants me to be happy and healthy and has worked with me to transition to part-time work allowing me the time to pursue my passion working on boards as well as being a Corporate Ambassador - and still have time to look after my family. I am lucky and I’ve been around long enough to offer some strategies to help others maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.
Set Clear Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries between work and personal time. Define your work hours and avoid bringing work-related tasks into your personal time. Communicate these boundaries with colleagues, clients and family to ensure everyone is aware of your availability.
Prioritise Tasks: Identify and prioritise your most important tasks. It’s amazing how much time we waste on tasks that could wait. Focus on high-priority items during work hours and avoid getting bogged down by less critical tasks.
Schedule Breaks: Easier said than done, I know, especially if you are on a roll. However, regular breaks in your workday help to prevent burnout and improves overall productivity. There’s a great technique called the Pomodoro technique (literally meaning the Tomato technique) ?– basically, you pick a task; set a 25-minute timer; work on the task until the time is up; take a 5 minutes break and after every 4 sessions, take a longer 15-20 minute break. It works I promise!
Learn to say No: Recognise your limits and be willing to say no when necessary. Of course we will all be expected to go above and beyond on occasion, however regularly overcommitting to tasks or projects can lead to stress and negatively impact your work-life balance.
Create a Dedicated Workspace: Now that many of us are working regularly from home, be sure to establish a dedicated workspace to separate your work and personal life. This can help you to transition between work and leisure time.

Let go: Many of us feel that a job will not be done properly if it’s not done by ourselves (I am totally guilty of this one). Learn to let go – you might be surprised at what others are able to achieve if given the opportunity. Trust – delegate tasks that can be handled by others and share the workload where possible.
Practice Self-Care: Finally, prioritise self-care activities such as adequate sleep and regular exercise. Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is essential for maintaining a sustainable work-life balance.
Achieving a health work-life balance is an ongoing process that requires self-awareness, communication and intentional decision-making. None of what I’ve suggested above is hard to do and by implementing these strategies you can create a more harmonious and fulfilling balance between your professional and personal life. And like me, recognize when you need to re-evaluate your life and work with your boss, colleagues and family to make sure you are in a good place and not about to burnout.
If you’ve read this and feel it will be impossible to implement strategies to ensure you have a good balance, then perhaps you should reconsider your employment and look after yourself.
