This time, it feels different
Hey. It's been another long, emotional week.
The uprisings across the world have been powerful. Yesterday I protested on the Golden Gate Bridge with thousands of people. Thanks again to everyone who took part in their communities, cities, and countries.
Here's the latest from Trapital.

How Hip-Hop Pushed Companies to Fight for Racial Justice
As hip-hop grew in power, it influenced those that profit off black culture to join the fight for justice. Hip-hop has always spoken out on police brutality. But more businesses have partnered with hip-hop in recent years. Those companies have felt the pressure to contribute to the same culture that’s making them rich. It’s one of many factors that accelerated the shift in response to this crisis. (June 4)
Hip Hop Statements Spreadsheet
I compiled a list of artists and music companies that made recent statements in support of Black lives and against criminal injustice. View the spreadsheet here.
I did this to track those who will stay committed and encourage others to do the same. Thanks to everyone who had contributed. Please share.

Why Republic Records Banned “Urban”
From Republic Records: "Effective immediately, Republic Records will remove “URBAN” from our verbiage in describing departments, employee titles, and music genres.
We encourage the rest of the music industry to follow suit as it is important to shape the future of what we want it to look like, and not adhere to the outdated structures of the past." (June 5)
Tuesday was a day for the music industry to disconnect from our work and reconnect with our community. There was a lot of confusion and disagreement on how that day was best spent, but it did help force dialogue from various sources. (June 1)
I took it as an opportunity to donate to several organizations: ACLU, The Bail Project, Campaign Zero, and Color of Change. If you are thinking of places to donate your money, I suggest you check out those organizations.
I also released a statement from Trapital to express my views on where this company stands:
Stay strong. Stay safe. Enjoy the rest of your week.
