It has been a rocky year for women and girls around the world. We, at UN WOMEN, have also witnessed some amazing wins, like nine countries adopting new legislation ending child marriage in the last 24 months, as we worked on the front lines with women and girls worldwide. And despite the grim and pervasive reality of sexual harassment and abuse against women and girls, the #MeToo moment signals a social shift: is the culture of silence around sexual violence finally changing?
As UN WOMEN’s mission is to promote gender equality and empower women and girls around the world, we have been behind many of the positive developments of the last few years. However, a lot more work remains in our efforts to build opportunities in the workplace, support and strengthen women’s voices and presence in political and peace processes, end violence against women and girls, and ensure their needs are met and roles acknowledged in humanitarian crises.

Nowhere is progress so palpable as the efforts we lead through UN Women programs in over 90 countries. We reach the most impoverished. We drive inclusion and empowerment, one girl, one woman at a time. We challenge the status quo. We engage and support local civil society groups, media and academics, governments, faith and sports communities, women and girls, men and boys too with HeforShe champions, to bring change to the lives of millions. We do this with the help of individuals like you!
Please don’t wait. Make a holiday donation today. Or as a gift to someone in your life – donate on their behalf.

Founder - Economics of inclusion
7 年Kudos to you madam, we are currently working on a book “Economics of Gender Equity & Analytical Process” the book will be over 12 chapters. I know that in many countries, more than 50% of the talent base are WOMEN, yet without much exceptions, women are substantially left out of active participation in most nation's economic, social and industrial transformation. Often times, it is solely gender related preferences for culture, religion & issues of stereotypes that limits these nations from harnessing the economic strengths of their women. Gender challenges are found in: Education; Employment; Health & mortality; Political participation; Violence against women, girls & faced persons in public spaces. The objective of my book is to introduce some unique aspects of gender challenges as a course in the curriculum for graduate students, so as to imbue gender sensitivity at the right age. We'll be glad to have anyone (including the World Bank & UN women) support us for it's speedy completion & particularly in its circulation. I'll be delighted if you can draw attention of World Bank(WB) President - Jim Kim to this project. Since women alone accounts for nearly 70% of global poor, Gender solution is Key to WB vision.
