The Time for Duct Tape Solutions Has Passed

The other day I saw this photo of one of the craziest repairs ever done with duct tape.

How could anyone think this was a good idea – because it put the car…and anyone inside of it – at risk. As the famous Michelin slogan asserts “Because so much is riding on your tires.” So how could the driver think this was not a very bad idea…even if only for a short distance?

The photo got me thinking about what many companies did to secure their email, messaging and other electronic communications when Covid forced their employees to work from home. A lot of them applied duct tape thinking – wishing - it would all be over by the end of summer. But it was not. Depending where their employees are, some estimates are that it will be at least a year before sufficient people are vaccinated to permit work life to return to some semblance of normal. And even if it does, many companies may decide to keep some of its employees working from home some or all of the time. Yet their duct tape solution remains. They hope it will hold!
