Time for a Data Change

The Why?

DaaS (Data as a Service) & STaaS (Storage as a Service) provide the most low cost, performance acceleration and management security currently available.

The great thing about these services, such as SNOWFLAKE, Or Microsoft Pure version (Azure SQL Database and Azure Synapse Analytics (formerly SQL Data Warehouse) are that they are secure, compliant certified and less expensive than the traditional data ( PLSQL, MS SQL, DB Services or installed on a Virtual Machine) counterparts. The cool thing about Snowflake and these services are they are NOT CLOUD Agnostic. You can use these services with ANY major Cloud provider, (GCS, AWS, Azure).

The What?

Business data is constantly changing, the older methods of searching for relevant data ingested and displaying that data out of time (not current) are now obsolete. There are multiple data points, meta-data and scenarios not needed to be stored but just available for reporting, analysis and trend comparison. Using today’s technology, we can extract, ingest only what is needed for compliance and security but also report, show trends and future predictions based on staged data.

EXAMPLE 1:

Company A wants to internalize their data within the cloud structure (AWS, Azure), They are currently using Linux Machines running Postgress and traversing to their apps in AWS, Azure.

Without having to depend on SQL servers or even SQL Instances (SaaS).

Snowflake, and other Data as a service (DaaS and STaaS) platforms allows ingestion from anywhere – Google, AWS- Azure- Files and Storage.

So. This meets their needs and it is secure, plus it provides a lower cost, better performance and higher availability, scalability and cloud-based data accessibility.

EXAMPLE 2:

Company 2 data is extensive and comes in (Ingress) in many different forms, ( I.E JSON, FTP, CSV, TXT, XML) – Because SNOWFLAKE and other Data Warehouses now have the ability to ingest ‘VARIANT’ data – we can show them the process, and alleviate the constant DIFFERENT data types (Tables and Structures) to ingest the data from anywhere. (FTP- File- auto ingress).

Also alleviate their high on-premise, Cloud based Virtual machines hosting their data provide pure native Cloud functions to ingress the data BEFORE they have to store it.

(A Staging point, where data stored is no cost.)

This isn’t random, I have been talking about data and assisting clients to move to the next level for the past 4 years. Now that 90% of these platforms are ISSO, SOC, HIPPA, NIST, CJIS certified, I think it’s time to ‘Educate’ the client on the benefits and what is now available.

Stop the Lift and Shift – Look at the client data first, provide them a pure Data platform that meets their needs, not just removing a server.

For SECURITY and looking at the past 2 years, (Solar Winds, Nobelium, Log4J) with this low cost, performance enriching platforms, their data would be better handled and 100% more secure than tradition a modals.

The Migration from regular SQL (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, IBM DM) is very low and the security monitoring, analytics of the data and the performance out-match old school tech, 1000 to 1. With services, such as Microsoft Sentinel and Log Analytics, with connection to HA /DR the data for the client is not only secure but monitored 24x7, redundant, backed up and has High Availability, if needed, without an expensive alternate SIEM product running in the background.

The bottom line is it doesn’t matter the platform, as a Cloud service provider and cloud architects, we need to start thinking along those lines, but ?need to STAY up to date an offer the clients the most secure, inexpensive, un-obtuse, secure, low migration, platforms now available to better meet their needs.
