Time to cut the commute?

‘We are sorry to announce that the 07:14 service has been cancelled…’
‘This service is delayed by approximately 27 minutes…’
The dreaded tannoy announcements that are the bane of any commuter. The frustrating words that cause stomachs to clench and teeth to grind as you realise your journey home is about to double in length, or for the second time this week you’re going to be late to the office.
It is something that we have all heard before and as commuters, you know is going to happen. Unfortunately, the pre-recorded messages and platform announcements are becoming far more common and delays are starting to put a serious strain on both individuals and companies alike.
We have already heard the horror stories from our network of people having to give up their roles because the commute is no longer viable, of people turning down opportunities because they feel that they cannot rely upon transport links and of individuals burning themselves out because they are spending over 4 hours commuting a day…
I recently got the opportunity to be in an overview and scrutiny meeting, questioning both RMT and GTR for their actions and performance. Passions were clearly high from both sides and this doesn’t look like an argument that is going to end any time soon.
RMT stated that ‘we can’t say that passengers support the strikes’, but they ‘feel the public support keeping conductors’ and the reasons behind their actions.
In a subsequent press release Charles Horton, chief executive of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which owns Southern said: "After 10 months, everyone is sick and tired of these strikes. Enough is enough."
Despite this, the action continues. RMT have recently announced an additional 14 more 24 hour walkouts and services aren’t showing any significant sign of improving.
Have you had enough?
Are you fed up of crowded platforms and delayed trains?

Looking for offers in a very difficult area that is mostly blue collar and care.
8 年this makes me laugh because the salaries in Brighton are atrocious! this is why people carry on. Southern Rail are hopeless and the CEO should be fired. The workets are covered by unions and unions once brought this country to so mant 'stand stills' that we lost manufacturing due to loss of revenue therefore prices were increased ...but the chinese and overseas countries looked at us and knew we were cricifying ourselves. sometimes a union is good but in this case it is ruining peoples lives together with the people at the top. Conductorless trains is ridiculous, especiakly laye at night. of course, the deciding parties are obviously all men! women would have this done and dusted by now.
