Time is critical. Learn important skills early in life.
It was Day 10 of recruiting at IIT Kharagpur. Ashish still did not have a job. He had applied to 40 companies. Many of them had invited him for interviews but had then rejected him. Why would companies not want this sharp 21-year old boy who had cracked one of the toughest exams in the world, was a national Mathematics Olympiad rank holder and was also the captain of his hostel’s fine arts team? Ashish was very sharp, but he did not speak up confidently and when he did, he would ramble on without making a positive impression. While he aced every written test, he was the quieter one in group discussions.
Companies today are looking for skills beyond just -technical caliber. Jobs in this decade already look very different from what they did in the past decade. For example, mainstream career fields such as digital marketing, data science and design thinking were not prominent till a few years back. It is impossible to predict what new professions will emerge in the next 10-15 years, when children who are ten years old today shall enter the workforce. In this scenario, the core skills required to be successful lie outside textbooks and conventional classrooms. If these skills are taught early in life, children can be equipped to achieve success no matter what the new world looks like.
Leaders of tomorrow will not be bound by standard jobs and boxed roles, but will be those who can be flexible in the face of uncertainty, are ready to adapt and ready to carve paths for themselves through worldly awareness, structured thinking, effective communication, persuasion skills and networking with the right peers and mentors.
Early Steps | Making global leaders of tomorrow
Early Steps is India’s first learning platform focused on developing strategic thinking and effective multi-party communication in children. Our mission is to ensure that Indian students are prepared to become leaders in whatever career they choose for themselves. Early Steps will provide children with curated, thought-through content that will inspire them every day, and expose them to a wide range of topics, careers, and leaders. We will not only provide them with tools for structured thinking and methods of effective articulation, but also provide a safe space for them to practice these skills repeatedly till they become second nature.
Early Steps will also expose students to a network of accomplished individuals across different industries and job roles. Mentoring children during these formative years can untap hidden potential early, allowing them time to intelligently create a path for themselves to become global leaders of the new world.
Early Steps’ vision is to prepare all students in India for real-life challenges by proactively equipping them with core skills which shall enable them to become leaders in their chosen fields.
