Time- A critical factor in Strategic Planning.

Time is undeniably a critical factor in the dynamic realm of developing and implementing business strategies. As the adage goes, time equals money, and the duration of time spent on strategizing can indeed carry costs in additional expenses and even lost revenues. While the integration of AI is burgeoning in various business aspects, delivering intricate strategic plans efficiently remains a distant challenge. That’s because AI is not imaginative or a definitive predictor to a solution that as yet, needs to be established. Strategy, after all, is a nuanced and imaginative exploration, that is not perfectly predictable or automatable.

At its core, strategy is a hypothesis on a planned outcome, it is an investigation into the processes and procedures of an organization's delivery of its business products and/or services. Strategic planning revolves around the collective competitiveness of an organization that needs to leverage its resources and capabilities effectively and efficiently. Strategic planning is and will be an ongoing evolving plan that will demand consistent attention, to reach those business goals and objectives.?

Understanding your business's unique operations and intricacies is paramount. Internal processes may share similarities, but variations emerge based on market approaches and customer segments. For instance, while Walmart, a US retail giant, and a grocery supermarket both serve similar customers, their stores are not the same. Plus, Walmart’s internal stocking and distributions systems differ. Similarly, competitors like US hardware stores, Home Depot and Lowes, share similar processes and procedures and customers, creating a competitive space, yet nuances do exist.

Defining the time, it takes to gather the data required to strategize is therefore not straightforward, but it's clear that time spent on strategic planning can redirect resources away from revenue-generating activities. Plus, strategic planning also demands additional time and ongoing attention, to achieve the desired business goals, and this investment in time can be pivotal to any business.

As you embark on the journey of strategic planning, many questions will arise: What needs improvement? Where do you begin? Who is involved? What technologies are essential? How do you collect the data? Where do you get the data from? How do you categorize the data for use? These questions demand answers, and finding the time as well as unbiased skill sets within your organization that have the right answers, will be a challenge.
