Is it time to change your Executive Coach?

?In my experience, leading a fast-paced organisation calls for leaders that are highly evolved and have an integrated and conscious view.?

?To achieve this, many leaders like myself embrace and invest in their personal and professional development by hiring an Executive Coach.

?But be warned: not all coaches are the same and, in my experience, knowing whether you have the right coach and making the decision to change your coach depending on the stage of your professional career is essential.

When considering whether your coaching is working I recommend that high performance leaders be really clear on their objectives and which type of leadership style they wish to enhance/adopt.

?I’ve personally chosen to adopt a conscious leadership style that requires awareness, intuition, and intentionality.?I’ve done this because I know that this style of conscious leadership positions me and my organisation for success.

?And I’ve chosen to only utilise coaches that support me in cultivating self-awareness.

?Finding a coach that aligns with your needs and goals can be challenging.?And sometimes, once we find them, we can get a little attached and hold onto them a little longer than we should – like a proverbial security blanket.

?Unfortunately, this attachment ends up holding us back.?

So how do you find a great coach and how long is too long to keep your current Executive Coach??

?In my experience, you know you’ve found the right coach when:

  • ?you are being supported to be the leader you already know you need to be
  • you naturally exercise radical accountability to your word?
  • your coach uses cutting edge executive coaching techniques and specialises in the stage of your professional career/leadership journey
  • your coach supports you to be ‘’consciously intuitive’’ and that is their leadership style too
  • you are being supported to accelerate and to set excuses aside
  • you have a highly personalised program with clarity on goals as you have facilitated and have real clarity about the results you will achieve together
  • you are receiving a real return on your investment (and the ROI is recognised through your changed behaviour and effectiveness when decision making and delivering on your KPIs in your workplace)
  • your coach is independent to your organisation and focused on your development (as internal coaching programs tend to focus on the skillsets the organisation needs)
  • you both have aligned communication styles
  • your coach is qualified to get you results (they are a member of an established professional coaching body, accredited, and sufficient experience as an executive and as a coach)
  • you both exercise radical honesty in every interaction and nothing said is taken personally
  • your coach nurtures your growth mindset
  • your coaching sessions are an active experience – in other words, reflecting on limiting beliefs and behaviours and taking action when necessary to step into your upleveled identity

?If your new or current coach isn’t hitting the spot meeting and meeting the above, then maybe it’s time for a change.

I love Tom Landry, and I love that quote of his. Good coaches will align with you to reach your needs and goals. I love being a coach, and I love to see people soar. Plus, I’ve been blessed by having a few really, really good coaches. They’ve made a huge impact in my life, and I love being able to help others in similar ways. Being crystal clear on objectives is critical… even if getting crystal clear is one of the goals!
