Time for a Change of Scenery

Time for a Change of Scenery

For the longest time, I've showcased 'the Snake' in Copenhagen, as the backdrop for my LinkedIn page and with good reason. Designed by visionary Danish architectural firm DISSING+WEITLING, I was first introduced to this remarkable bike overpass - built to expedite bike traffic over busy roads, while on a Copenhagen learning tour back in 2014.

I've since had the good fortune of visiting, learning from and photographing numerous forward-thinking communities that are doing equally remarkable things when it comes to making cities more sustainable, resilient and overall, better places to live. One goal on this page, is to begin sharing more of these experiences and supporting images, starting with a change in my lead photo as per the top of this page. That image and the one below were taken this past November during a visit to Studio Roosegaarde in Rotterdam. The firm is a social design lab that is inspiring people from around the world with everything from their inventions to their public works of art designed to shed a spotlight on the state of our environment and the world we live in.

The actual studio appears of the far right of these photographs, while their 'smog free tower' to the left is a 7-metre high air filter that cleans 30,000 m3 of air per hour as a localized way to reduce pollution. I also like the fact that both top and bottom photos showcase some of the vibrant public art that can readily be found in Rotterdam, even in industrial areas such as this one.
