Time for change

Time for change

Last week I hung up my wheels as CEO of Cycling Industries Europe and closed out my full-time management career in the cycling sector after 27 years with CIE, European Cyclists Federation, CyclingUK and associated roles in many boards and projects.

I have been proud and honoured to be the founding CEO of CIE and had the opportunity to work with company leaders who not only believe in the duty of business to support the communities who buy and use their products, but also recognise that there are many topics where you leave competition at the door for the greater good.

Thanks to for the opportunity given to me by CIE, The Micromobility Report, ECF and Bicicleta to reflect in exit interviews about what we have achieved together and what is still to come for these great organisations and colleagues, so I won’t stretch those words out again here.

But it is never too often to thank my colleagues, my team and the wider community in associations, public bodies, consultancies and academia that I have worked with. It would have been impossible for me to sustain a role in this sector without knowing that I have been just a part of our wider movement. From local campaigners to European policy makers we are bound together by the belief that we can make a difference, we must make a difference, each in our own way. And from you I have learned everything that I have been able to put to work for cycling.

What next?

I am not going to write ‘available for work’ at the head of my profile, but I guess I could write ‘available to help’. I am taking a long-planned retirement holiday until into the New Year, then in 2025 I will be looking at some part-time and advisory activity including my board position at IMBA Europe supporting the mountain bike sector.

My commitment to helping people and organisations become more impactful in what they do remains, so whether it is organizational coaching, personal mentoring or strategic advice pitch me something and let’s have a chat.

Ground rules – non-executive, part-time and make it interesting!
