Time for Change

CEO & Curator at Futur/io Institute ? Co-creating desirable futures with CSOs & leaders in sustainability
Dear Reader,
As the saying goes, change is the only constant in life. Yet it can be so difficult to uproot the good old habits and the golden beliefs that make up the foundation of who we are - or rather, who we believe we are.? We get so often pushed to the brink of collapse by our habits, before we dare questioning them, let alone change them for good. ?
It's no surprise that change is so difficult at a collective level - our cultures and identities are upheld by such depth and history. And yet again, change is inevitable, if we see ourselves in responsibility for the next generations and their prospects, hopes and dreams towards desirable futures. What is left for us to ask is - what lays on the other side of change? And what is the safest and most joyful way to change - before we get pushed past all the planetary boundaries, into the brink of collapse?
In the early 70s, the book “The Limits to Growth” by The Club of Rome questioned the trajectory of our societies on its way to infinite growth in the guise of "progress", with scientific rigour. Isn't progress an inherently good thing after all? The book winked an eye and asked us to pause for a second on our hilarious ride and quest for more, more, more.? More what?
For whom?
At what cost?
But progress, like growth and change are merely words, vague when not questioned, articulated and contextualised. So we may as well revisit their meaning, and adjust it to the times - and planet - we live in.
Change is inevitable, and it is also exciting if we make it so.?If we choose where it leads, and how, before it gets forced upon us. It's on us to make the right choices, at the right time.
So I ask you:
What is the change you are after?
What is your role in it - and how are you practicing it right now??

On March 25 we will host a CSO Awards Reception at the Change NOW summit. We can't wait to welcome Spring in such a change-propelling setting, alongside some of the most inspiring leaders of our time. We have only a few spots left, so if you are a sustainability leader and want to join us for an inspiring gathering, request your invitation to save your seat.
Tomorrow is woman's day, and I want to take a moment to honour all women around the world and in my life for their incredible contributions to more desirable futures.?
It's their time to lead the change. ??

1 年Great questions Harald -- as a human race it's high time to re-examine what the word "progress" does and should mean.
