Needless to say, British food has often endured more than its fair share of teasing when it comes to our choice of flavours. Yet as popular British cook Nigel Slater once said, "British food is a celebration of comfort eating. Our traditional savoury recipes are all about warmth and sustenance, our puddings a roll call of sweet jollity, our cakes are deep and cosy. We appear to be a nation in need of a big, warm hug!”

Whilst it is true that British cuisine and our love of traditional tea time treats or snacks are often called bland or flavourless, Britain’s diet is a unique part of our culture as a nation. Now, as the nation’s monarch remembers an historic seven decades on the throne, it is impossible to separate this special slice of Britain’s history from the traditional dishes we crave on high days and holidays.??

It is interesting that food is often at the very heart of any celebration whether that be a family gathering or one that involves the entire nation. According to Money Supermarket, ‘The country spent a total of £823m celebrating the bank holiday weekend, spending an average of £83 each on food, drink and decorations.’ And no doubt millions of cups of tea were also be brewed!

As the Jubilee this year was acknowledged with a four day bank holiday, the celebration was a wonderful opportunity to reward the country, halfway through the year. We all know and appreciate the benefits of a special treat or event from time to time and whilst that is frequently something that occurs around the end of the year, a little perk midway is a great opportunity to show appreciation to employees. Who of us doesn’t enjoy the opportunity to indulge in a little quintessential luxury to generate from time to time?

As Forbes suggests, ‘Find new things to celebrate with your employees. Start thinking outside the box to find different reasons to celebrate. Hold annual ceremonies to recognize employees for their hard work, host employee appreciation days or take your team out for a nice lunch after achieving a company goal. It’s easy for everyone to bond over a plate of food. Employers can provide opportunities for social engagement by hosting monthly team lunches. A weekly team breakfast is another great way to bring colleagues together.’

Of course, an office event doesn’t just have to involve employees but also clients or partners. According to Forbes, whatever the occasion, an office event is an important aspect of business culture, never mind highlighting a Jubilee celebration at the heart of British culture.

Forbes highlighted, ‘Hosting an event allows you to get your current and prospective clients in the building and grow relationships with them in ways you wouldn’t on a regular basis. Company events give you an opportunity to create strong bonds with your teams on a personal level and learn about their interests outside of work. ’
