What do you think gets better with age?
If you've been around enough like I have been, this phrase must sound familiar to your ears, "wine gets better with age", or you must have at least come across a #agingfinelikewine social media post. We must agree, whether you drink wine or have never tasted it in your life, whether you have only tasted it once or are an occasional drinker; it's a fact that is accepted universally that life in the bottle, gets better with age.
Does it really get better with age? I mean, WINE? Not necessarily. White wine unlike red wine is meant to be enjoyed right away as laying it down in the cellar spoils it & makes it older thus reducing it's quality. Because they are less acidic, the chemical breaking down can happen a little quicker, causing them to actually go bad.?Yes! Wine does go bad with age.....experts say that it will smell like vinegar signalling that the alcohol has been taken away.??
On the contrary, red wine becomes smoother & produces new flavors, aromas, and sweetness as it ages giving it a robust taste. When red wine ages, the secondary and tertiary palates evolve and become more known, producing flavors that may only become present due to the chemical process that happens in aging.
Similarly with life, everything in life is not what it seems, the human eye can only see what's on the surface & beyond the surface requires more than just a physical eye, but an enhanced life perspective. Whilst perspective on life does get better with age for some, it's not the same with everyone. For some people, as they get older so does their minds and consequently their perspective on life gets rusty & loses flavor just like white wine?? ♀?. This make the adage, "it gets better with age", just a prejudice....
Fortunately enough with me, Just like red wine my perspective on life does get better with age. When I was a child, I thought like a child, just as the apostle Paul rightly put it, everything was black & white. But as I grew older my perspective on life drastically changed, and I now see life differently. When I discovered that the world is imperfect & so are people, it altered & moderated my expectations from people & the world generally. Life & people in general are imperfect & the imperfections are okay. I now know there are good parts and there are bad parts of life and that is how it is supposed to play out.

I realized some people would agree with me and others would disagree with me.?It still is okay. Some people will like me for no reason & some will dislike me for no reason too, that too is OKAY. The people I trust can betray my trust anytime, people will look out for themselves before they look out for you & that's just human nature.....This perspective liberates you from the need to constantly want to change situations beyond your control, it frees you from crucifying yourself through worrying about what you cannot change..
As I grow, GRATITUDE HAS BECOME EASIER, nomatter what I may be experiencing. I now see & appreciate more what I have than what I don't have. Maturity now makes me see RESPONSIBILITY as a privilege than a burden. When I was younger, I was mostly concerned about "what people think of me", it made me lose myself in the process, but as I age, my life principles dictate my actions and course of life. In making life decisions, instead of asking myself "what would people think?", I ask myself, what do I think of me, how does Jehovah view this? what's the bible's perspective on this? In essence, life experiences has taught me that nothing in life is worth sacrificing your identity, principles & beliefs for.
Growing up on its own, has taught me that ITS OKAY TO CHANGE, especially for the better...& that you owe no one an explanation for the changes you make in your life unless if you've a duty of submission towards them. Change is inevitable in life, so is aging but GROWRH IS A CHOICE. Likewise, with age, learning has ceased to be a duty for me but rather a necessity to make life worthwhile. Everyday, life teaches me that I have more to learn & should always be humble. Growth shouldn't therefore be measured in earth years, but in impact made in life.
As I mature in life, my priorities have beautifully shifted. My spirituality comes first before anything, it's always GOD FIRST, then everything else hinges on that. My allegiance is to God first. I have realized that, what I accumulate holds little value to what I utilize....whether it's material possessions or knowledge, utilization of such to make impact is more valuable than accumulation. Net worth therefore is not measured in possessions but in service.
So, here is the conclusion of the matter, if your perspective on life is growing & becoming better, you're maturing with age. However, on the contrary, if it's dwindling & becoming bad then you're getting older with age.
